Brief description of research activities

The Danish National Research Foundation’s Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP) is a centre-of-excellence at Aalborg University. The overall goal of the center is to identify and modulate key features of human pain neuroplasticity. This is achieved by establishing human pain neuroplasticity models based on provoking and probing the pain system, and by
using pain neuroplasticity models to identify key features of the modulation of neuroplastic pain mechanisms. When needed for improving the human models, a translation between in-vivo animal and human experimentation is implemented.
CNAP applies a multidisciplinary biomedical engineering approach where new, advanced mechanistic pain provocation and probing platforms are studied to reveal fundamental aspects of human pain neuroplasticity. The long-term perspective of the research forms a basis for the next generation of pain management.
