The Committee is delighted that the number of nominations for The Brain Prize this year exceeded the impressive number received last year – the inaugural year of the Prize. Even more important, the very high quality of candidates for the Prize gives the Committee almost an embarrassment of riches.

It is also very encouraging to see that nominations are now coming from all over the world, indicating that the significance and prestige of The Brain Prize have been recognized by the international scientific community. Without help from independent external advisors, the Selection Committee cannot do its job with complete confidence, and we are truly grateful to the many distinguished researchers, around the world, who are acting as external reviewers.

The achievements of European neuroscientists and their collaborators elsewhere in the world have made an enormous contribution to the spectacular growth and success of neuroscience in the past decades. We are confident that the second award of The Brain Prize will consolidate its role in celebrating the best of European neuroscience and in providing a strong stimulus to Danish brain research.
