Dr. Rehfeld is professor of clinical biochemistry at the University of Copenhagen and head of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, the National University Hospital (Rigshospitalet) in Copenhagen. Dr. Rehfeld received his MD in 1967 from the University of Aarhus and obtained the doctorate degrees in medical science (1974) and in science (1989) from the University of Copenhagen. He has published seven books and over 800 scientific articles. He has received several European awards including the Mack-Foster Award, the Van Gysel Prize, the Anders Jahre Prize, the Nordic Research Award of the Lundbeck Foundation, and he has delivered named lectureships in Europe, North America, Japan, and Australia. He is a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Science and Letters, of the Russian Academy of Science and Higher Education, and of the Royal Academy of Science (Uppsala, Sweden). His research interest is biologically active peptides (including not least neuropeptides), their biogenesis, and methods for their measurement at the interface between basic biochemistry and clinical diagnosis.
